Journal 8 : Hurricane

This chapter is about the hurricane that occured in the north eastern coast of the U.S, by New York and Rhode Island area. The hurricane was really terrible, the winds traveled at a huge speed, its went from fouty mile to ninty miles per hour in less than two hours. It killed hundreds of people, and about ten thousand loose their homes. Its shocking to know that hurricanes can reach up to the north eastern coast, I thought that hurricanes only affects the gulf coast region.

Hurricane Katrina was the sixth strongest overall hurricanes, concidered to be the most costly and the fifth deadliest hurricane. eighty percent of the state was flooded. Katrina caused the deadliest natural disaster in the us, it causes over 1,800 death. Compared to the one in long island , Katrina is way much worst.

The Hurricane was a devastating event for all the people who lived in the area at the time. It killed a lot of people as well as destroying what ever got in its way. However, I liked the role of WPA at the time. It helped keep the dam from collapsing. The dams protected several people and properties worth more than $100.000 as well. WPA showing up and help fight the storm was the most positive and patriotic thing they have done especially at the time of the economic crises. Not only the WPA did prevent the dam from destroying, they also helped rebuild the cities that were destroyed by the hurricane.

Hurricane Katrina fact

The most interesting fact to me was that Hurricane Katrina was one of the five deadliest hurricanes in history, and sixth strongest of them all!!!!!!

Hurricane Katrina

Hurricane Katrina happened in the year of 2005 Atlantic hurricane season was one of the five deadliest and worrest hurricane in the history of the United States.

Hurricane katrine began in August of 2005 for four different states in the United States such as Southern Florida, Gulf of mexico, Texas and Southeast of Louisiana. this hurricane caused a lot of deaths and flooding in Florida before turning in the Gulf of Mexico. Then the storm reached in southeast Louisiana in August 29 which was the one that has caused severe destruction along the Gulf coast from central Florida to Texas, much of it due to the storm surge. The most severe loss of life and property damage occurred in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Today there are still people fled the hurricane katrina displaced residents in Mississippi and Louisiana are still living in other states those who does't have any home to live or go back because of the floods destroyed everything they had .

Journal # 8

It was a really horrible hurricane!!! Again so many people died, and a lot of homes were destroyed. Two hundred and sixty people were dead, and 10,000 homes had been destroyed in Rhode Island alone. it meant that more and more people became homless. The most surprising was passage was on page 376, last chapter. There people were on the beach glancing along the shoreline. They saw a fog, but then realized that it was a huge wave coming. It was too late to run. Remindes me of a big tsunami that happend four or five years ago in Thailand, where millions of people were injured, and thousands died.

Hurricane

The hurricane that occurred in New England was very dangerous and destroyed a lot of ground. The hurricane had gone so many amounts of days and kept going reaching other states going from forty miles an hour to almost ninety miles an hour. It had killed several amounts of people. Hurricane Katrina was very sever hurricane that it made the history of the worst hurricane in the United States which occurred in a lot of states but most of all effected New Orleans that most. This hurricane had killed a lot of people and destroyed a lot of homes. So many people have been reported lost and still are. The city it has destroyed had become just one big flood. Until know there are people that are without homes and some that live in trails three years after this hurricane attacked.
chapter 9 in the book American-Made was about a hurricane that moved up the side of the east coast and hit the New England states like Rhode island and New York and Massachusetts. the one thing that i was able to take away from this is a relating topic to what i have learned in economics. my teacher in their says that one bad thing can lead to many food things like the hurricane this was able to provide work for 100,000 people with work and more to come. other examples that were given were like divorces, jobs that would come out of this would be like your attorney the judge and other participants that are used in the financial process. it was also an eye opener just to see the stats and the toll that it took on just a few states. the only thing in life time that is relate able is hurricane Katrina. by only hearing about is it seems to just go in and out but to see the information on paper it really opens your eyes to how your day to day life is can be affected. to put the two hurricanes side by side the numbers would be 1,836 lost their lives in Katrina and in 1938's hurricane 682 were lost and 1,700 were injured. also their is the cost of each Katrina cost was 81.2 billion dollars and the hurricane in the book cost only 100 million.
